⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Graham Effect is the first book in the Campus Diaries series, It is a spin off of BookTok sensations Off-Campus and Briar U by New York Times best selling author Elle Kennedy.

It follows the story of Gigi Graham, the daughter of NHL legend Garrett Graham. Gigi is focused on stepping out of her famous father’s shadow and reaching her goal to qualify for the women’s national hockey team and win that Olympic gold, something her father has never done. But there is just one problem, she needs to step up her game behind the net and this is where Luke Ryder comes in.

Standing at six-foot-five, Luke Ryder is a strong-willed and impolite heartthrob. However, he finds himself in a difficult situation as his former school has combined forces with Briar's, their long-time adversary. This leaves Ryder in a bind, as he must perform well on the new hockey team despite being despised by all his teammates. Additionally, he is determined to secure a coaching position on Garrett Graham's summer program, but a disastrous first encounter forces him to seek Gigi's assistance in changing her father's opinion of him.

Despite their rivalry, Gigi and Ryder reach a compromise to assist each other. Ryder will aid Gigi in improving her hockey skills around the net, while Gigi will speak positively of Ryder to her dad. This arrangement appears to benefit both parties.

The main issue arises when they begin their training, as an undeniable chemistry between them is hard to ignore. Despite the sweat and the heavy hockey gear, being in close proximity on the ice makes it difficult for them to resist. Since both are members of the school's hockey teams, they must collaborate off the ice to support both teams in their fundraising efforts.

The book is highly engaging and captivating, making it difficult to stop reading. The romantic relationship between Gigi and Ryder faces challenges initially due to their rivalry, Gigi's ex-boyfriend's star performance on Briar's hockey team, and his earning the respect of his teammates.

The evolution of their love story is intricately depicted and engaging. Due to Gigi's lack of romantic involvement since her breakup, she is experiencing some sexual frustration, negatively affecting her performance on the ice. Gigi and Ryder opt to delve into the mutual sexual chemistry they acknowledge. Ryder selflessly agrees to assist Gigi in alleviating her frustration, leading them to become discreet friends with benefits.

Their connection is evident from the beginning, especially in their incredible intimacy. As they continue to collaborate on and off the ice, their bond deepens, leading to undeniable feelings that eventually culminate in a relationship, albeit with its own challenges.

The entertaining and delightful exchange between Gigi and Ryder is genuinely captivating. Gigi had difficulty persuading Ryder to come out of his grumpy mood, but she managed to do so and uncovered Ryder's past, offering insight into his grumpiness. Their differing personalities, with Gigi being friendly and humorous and Ryder being solemn and introverted, harmonize beautifully. They bring out the best in each other, supporting one another in conquering individual fears and challenges, thus deepening their connection.

I love the surprising twist in their Vegas trip. The Briar’s men team coming together to support each other is a wonderful display of sportsmanship.

If you are seeking a captivating romance with a touch of sensuality and excellent hockey elements, I strongly recommend this book.

Throughout the course, we also learn more about friends who unite to assist and encourage Gigi and Ryder in facing their obstacles. I am pleased to announce that the upcoming book, The Dixon Rule, continues the narrative of this group.

The Dixon Rule is up next, so keep your eyes out for that.

xoxo
